These days every school has computers and access to the internet, which is a double-edged sword. A learner may access the best blog on “ how to write effectively in English” or the worst blog on “how to date with many boys/girls”.
Young learners are prone to be attracted to the worst rather than the best. So the teacher must be on their guard. He/she should introduce the learners to the best online sites like “British Council’s teaching English” or Linkedin etc. where there is no scope for spasm or cheating. Even Facebook which is so popular in the world is not so secure for the young learners. So the teacher should always guide the learners on what to read or how to read and where to read. If the learners have internet connection at home., The parents should be asked to monitor their wards while they are working on the computers.
I found my students escape from school and enter the internet cafes and play unnecessary video games or watch harmful pornography sites. Nevertheless, The teacher may be a good example to his/her students. He/she should impress the students to read good blogs first and encourage them to write blogs later. At the secondary stage there may be a few students who can write coherently.
The teacher may encourage the best student to write his impressions, for example, on the new course book, how it helps to improve his four language skills etc. He may make some necessary changes here and there. and get it published. If the student found that his/her blog was published for the first time, he would surely feel elated and motivated to write more blogs of his interest and ability which in turn paves the the way for others’ writing blogs or at least reading his/her friend’s blog.. I would like to experiment this myself.
