TeachingEnglish has lots of different activities for teachers who are teaching English around the world to children aged 5-12. To help you find suitable activities, we have three levels on our site. These activities for level 2 are most suitable for children who can understand and use words and sentences in common topics and situations, and can follow more complex stories and texts. Teachers can use the levels as a guide. For example, if they start to find level 2 activities too easy, you can try more level 3 activities. However, all children learn differently, so try activities from different levels at any time, especially if it is a topic they enjoy.

Find an activity

Change places…

This is a great activity to get students moving about and practise some vocabulary or sentence structures.

English clubs and corners

If you can use part of a classroom as your own or if you always use the same classroom, then find out about the possibility of displaying your pupils’ work on the wall. Not only does it give them huge satisfaction to see their poem, picture or poster on the wall it also provides a fun and interesting place to work in.

Good Manners

British people have a reputation for being polite and appreciating good manners. You can have fun with your children in many different role play scenarios, getting them to practise what to do and what not to do in England. I have split the good manners up and given general rules and an activity per section.

In the Town

This is a popular topic with young learners as it is easy for them to relate to the situations and it provides many opportunities to practise using the language in a communicative and real context.

The senses

Every child is unique and approaches learning differently. You should always vary your teaching techniques to avoid alienating the students who learn differently to the way you teach. Young learners tend to respond well to actually doing rather than just hearing your voice. Some need to touch in order to reinforce the language. Try a selection of activities and see how well your students respond.

At the funfair

Coming into a primary English lesson should always be about having fun. The fun should obviously always be grounded in learning, but it's important to always remember the enjoyment factor. This is why it's good to base your lessons on subjects that children will automatically relate to.

The moon and the stars

This is a topic which allows children to explore their imagination through poems, crafts and creative activities.

Realia in the bag

This is vocabulary activity that can be used easily with students of different ages.
